Counseling

I have been a clinical social worker for 29 years and have expertise in women’s issues, substance abuse and addictions, childhood sexual abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression, as well as general life worries, struggles, and negative habits that keep people from achieving their goals.

My gentle but active style helps clients move from feeling stuck to unstuck. I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which serves as an excellent basis for adding cognitive-behavioral, existential, mindfulness-based, and motivational approaches to guide people toward more happiness, less stress, and an increased sense of control over their lives. I view counseling as a collaborative endeavor and often incorporate therapeutic writing techniques to help clients develop increased inner awareness.

I know that negative inner talk and unresolved family-of-origin issues often inhibit us from manifesting our true creative potential. I offer short- or long-term individual counseling for writers, artists, and musicians who feel blocked or emotionally stuck in their work or in their relationships.

My experience includes supervising dozens of social work students and master's-level clinicians; I am sensitive to the special demands of graduate school and the challenges of personal and professional change. Currently, I have openings at reduced rates for graduate students in the mental health professions.

My office is in Newton Highlands, easily accessible to the Green Line (D train). Sliding scale available for those experiencing financial hardship.

Please call my voicemail at 617-448-5769 or email me at debbie@deborahsosin.com to schedule an initial consultation.
